Background:
The Sunshine Coast Children’s Therapy Centre was established in 1988 by families who previously had to travel into Brisbane to access therapy services for their children. Initially the Centre operated three days a week from a room at Nambour State School. Over the years the Centre had a variety of locations including the old Nambour Blood Bank.
During the 1990’s, with increased funding and community support, the service was extended to provide therapy for five days a week. In 1997, following a fantastic community effort and with government support a purpose built Centre was opened for the children and families of the Sunshine Coast to attend for their essential therapy services. The Centre now provides service for more than eighty Sunshine Coast and Cooloola Shire families.
Management:
The Centre is an independent not for profit, Incorporated Association, managed by a volunteer parent and community Board of Management. Parents play an active role in the direction and development of the Centre. The BOM is supported by the Centre Director and Office Administrator.
Funding:
The Centre receives approximately 65% of operational funding from:
The remaining 35% of monies required to keep the Centre operational is from fundraising activities organised by the Centre and the Community.
